Is Bacon Bad For You?
- A really good alternative to regular pork bacon, is "Oscar Meyer" (formerly sold under "Louis Rich") turkey bacon. I've tried numerous other turkey bacon on the market, and this tastes just like the real thing. My husband is a very picky eater and LOVES bacon, but when I introduced him to this lower fat turkey bacon, he immediately switched. He now swears by it. :-)

Himalayan salt
- I make and use a brine of Himalayan mineral salt. We use it in our neti pot and for cooking. We trained ourselves to use very little salt because high bp and heart problems run in our families and we want to avoid them. So far so good in our 60s.

Fleur de Sel
- Not if you buy the celtic sea salt from Bretagne, France- also known as fleur de sel. It provides over 80 minerals and can actually help in lowering high blood pressure accompagnied by a healthy natural unprocessed diet. This is a hand harvested salt directly from the ocean and has no processing whatsoever. You will notice it being moist with a grayish color.

amchur, tamarind, citrus
- We're supposed to be on a low, not zero-sodium diet. I think we probably go a bit overboard. We use olive oil, and then heavily spice food with chili/jalapeno, coriander and coriander-related forms, curry leaf, cardamom, Indian bayleaf, fenugreek, cumin, and aliums (sometimes all together), and then use amchur, tamarind powder, or lime. Sometimes it still tastes flat, so I count out a few grains of coarse grain salt.

Tomatoes help in reducing sodium!
- I think adding tomatoes to your curries, salads definitely helps in masking the less salt in it!

hidden salt
- Sodium is a total no for me. I have learned to get around most of the inconvenience by using Potassium chloride for general seasoning of potatoes and pasta. I make my own broth by cooking chicken with one carrot, 1 stalk of celery and a medium onion. I can then use this for many recipies (or have a cup of broth with lunch) I used different things to spice up foods - garlic powder, dill, rosemary, lemon, lime, etc. The thing I miss most is cheese! It is called for in so many recipes.

Lemon and pepper
- I think lemon juice is terrific on salads and fish. Tine pinch of red pepper flaskes add real zest to soup. Fresh ground pepper helps fish, meat and poultry.
