Why I decided to lose weight
I was at 380 pounds, very unhealthy and feeling terrible. I was a size 48 pants, 6X shirt and just felt horrible. After getting my annual physical for my truck driving job, my doctor sat me down and began to list all the things that were going wrong with me. It was a long and not so nice list. It really scared me. On June 1, 2009, I began to exercise and watch what I eat. As of today, January 17th, 2011, I have lost 177 pounds. Trying to lose 3 more pounds to make my journey complete. I now weigh 203 pounds. I am a size 34 pants and wear a large size shirt. I fell great. I look great. Why did I wait so long
How I lost the weight.
I began an exercise regime that consisted of bike riding. I began to ride about 5 miles, twice a day. It was very hard at first and very painful. I continued to bike ride and began to add more and more miles each day. That was June 1, 2009 when I began the bike riding. By the end of Autumn (October), I was riding 20 miles in the morning and 20 miles in the evening. Since the cold weather set in in November, I am stuck in the gym, but still ride 35 miles each morning before work. I now find the exercise very enjoyable and exhilarating. My diet had to change also. I started to read labels and count calories. Luckily, I do not have to worry too much about sodium, I can eat whatever I want. I just realized I was eating too much, and not exercising at all. I have a very strick eating plan and have been able to stick to it since June 1, 2009. I gave up all fried foods, all fast foods (yes MCDONALDS, too), and have been able to shrink my stomach so I fill up fast. No surgical procedures for me. Just good old fashioned exercise. Log everything you do. Weight when you start, and again each day. Measure your stomach, at the belly button, measure your arms and legs. keep track of everything you do. Any exercise you may do, how often and how long. By recording everything, you will always be aware of what is going on. You can never write too much. Take pictures too. A picture of yourself looking somewhat thinner, compared to a picture of you fat, will give you encouragement in your endeavor to lose weight. Will power is everything.
Tips and Tricks
- Cut your sandwich into four's so you can trick your brain into thinking you are eating more. Depending on your schedule, very light breakfast, then an apple or banana at 9:00 AM, lunch at 11:00 AM. Another apple or banana at 2:00 PM. supper at 5:00 PM. Nothing after 7:00 PM. (that also includes water, NOTHING after 5PM).
- Eat slow. drink pleny of fuids with your meals (no soda, only water or tea). Drink Iced water, tastes better, also filling. One day a week, eat a decent meal, to give yourself some pleasure. Don't give in to eating less. You will get used to it. The first month is the worst.
