Question: What can I substitute for fruit?
I am trying to lose weight and one step is to eat healthier foods. My problem is that the only fruit I like to eat are apples. The other fresh fruit look so good but when I try to eat them I gag. I think they are too slimy. Is there foods I can substitute for the other fruit?

Answer: Choose pears, nectarines and peaches while they are fairly firm. They may not be as crisp as fresh apples, but they will not be as squishy as when they are fully ripe. Freeze seedless grapes in individual-sized snack bags, and eat them frozen. You can also enjoy dried fruits such as raisins, dried apricots and dried berries.

You might also enjoy fruit smoothies. Simply place berries, non-fat milk, and a few ice cubes in a blender to create a delicious healthy snack that is similar to a milkshake.

If you eat extra green or brightly-colored vegetables like carrots and broccoli every day, you may not need to eat as much fruit. Be sure to get at least five to nine total servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
