Taking a dietary supplement can be a great way to ensure you are getting all the nutrition you need. Especially when your dietary choices aren't the best. Unfortunately, dietary supplements aren't regulated so you have to be careful when you buy your supplements.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: N/A
Here's How:
  1. Check with ConsumerLab.com before you shop. ConsumerLab.com has created a data base of dietary supplements that have passed their tests for quality.
  2. Do your shopping at a health food store or a shop that specializes in selling dietary supplements. These places are more likely to offer high quality products and their staffs will be better trained to answer your questions.
  3. Look at the label on the dietary supplements you are thinking about purchasing. Find the expiration date so you have a good idea that the dietary supplement is fresh. If the product doesn't have an expiration date, choose a different brand.
  4. The label should offer some assurance that there are no toxic contaminants in the product. This is very important for fish oil capsules which may be contaminated with mercury and some types of calcium that may be contaminated with lead.
