In an attempt to appeal to weight conscientious customers, Applebees has added a Weight Watchers menu. I sampled one of these meals to assess the nutritional value.

Teriyaki Shrimp Skewers

This meal is made up of two skewers of grilled shrimp, which are served on a bed of rice pilaf and with a side of green vegetables. The shrimp should come to around 100 calories and provide calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. The rice pilaf adds around 100 calories. The vegetables will add more vitamins and minerals. The total calorie count should come out around 250 to 270 calories.

The Bottom Line

This healthy low calorie meal would be great for dieters, however low carb dieters would have to ask for a substitution for the rice. Add some water with a slice of lemon for a beverage.
