Penza Nutrition Bars

How about a quick coffee stop at Starbucks, or maybe spending a leisurely Sunday morning there, reading the paper and meeting new friends. What to eat along with your morning chai, latte, tea, or coffee? There are those pastries in the pastry case or there are the new Penza nutrition bars.

The Penza bars are available in four flavors: oatmeal raisin spice, peanut butter dolce, caramel dolce, and mocha dolce. They are chewy with a nice texture, and the packages suggest which Starbucks coffees pair best with their flavors. They are sweetened with various combinations of corn syrup, honey, or maltitol. They are not as tasty as the pastry goods and sweets that Starbucks also offers, but they do have some vitamins and minerals.

Nutrition Information

Each bar contains 50% Daily Values of vitamins A, C, and E, plus 25% of calcium, B vitamins, iron, iodine, copper, and zinc. Each 50 gram bar has from 180 to 210 calories and at least 26 grams of carbohydrates, and six to seven grams of fat, and six to twelve grams of protein.

Middle Of The Road

The Penza bars would be a better nutritional choice than the pastries at Starbucks, in fact one bar is probably similar in nutrition to bowl of vitamin enriched cereal. A Penza bar is fine as an occasional breakfast replacement, but a healthy breakfast consisting of a protein source, fresh fruit, yogurt and maybe whole grain cereal is still the better choice.

Same goes for that afternoon snack. While a Penza bars is a better choice than a candy bar as a snack, a piece of fruit or raw vegetables and a handful of nuts would be a better choice.
