Nutrition Glossary: Mineral

Definition:
Inorganic (non-living) element that is essential to the nutrition of humans, animals and plants.

Major minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, chlorine, potassium, sodium and sulfur. They're available as dietary supplements, but be careful not to go over the tolerable upper levels.

Trace minerals include iron, cobalt, copper, fluoride, iodine, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, selenium, vanadium and zinc.
