Quaker offers this convenient option for satisfying your mid-morning cravings without losing good nutrition. Quaker Breakfast Cookies are soft, chewy, nutritious cookies that come in two flavors, oatmeal raisin and apple cinnamon. Quaker Breakfast Cookies are made with whole grain rolled oats and they are fortified with vitamins and minerals, including calcium. I had the opportunity to sample both flavors of the cookies and here are the pros and cons with the Quaker Oats Breakfast Cookies:

Pros:

  • They are individually wrapped so they are easy to carry with you when you think you might need a quick snack.
  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies contain five grams of fiber, including two grams of soluble fiber, which can help to lower cholesterol.
  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies are fortified with several vitamins and minerals, including calcium. In fact one cookie can supply 30 of the calcium you need each day, based on a 2000 calorie per day diet.
  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies contain no trans fat.
  • I enjoyed the flavors. The oatmeal raisin and apple cinnamon cookies fit with the flavors many of us associate with breakfast.

Cons:

  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies may be just a little too soft. The ones I tried tended to come apart if I wasn't careful with them.
  • They do contain a small amount of saturated fat, about 1.5 grams, although that is far less than a traditional cookie or doughnut.
  • The flavors are very good, however not good as freshly baked, home made cookies.

Who Should Buy Quaker Breakfast Cookies?

The Quaker Breakfast Cookies sell for around $3.00 per box and each box contains six cookies. They were created as a healthier option for people who eat sweet mid-morning snacks. The individual packaging makes the cookies very convenient to keep on hand so you don't reach for unhealthy snacks instead. While I think a piece of fresh fruit like an apple or pear would be better, I think the breakfast cookies would fit well into these situations:
  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies would be a good choice for you if you have strong cravings for sweets in the middle of the morning. If you find yourself reaching for candy bars or donuts every morning at work, buy these cookies instead.
  • Quaker Breakfast Cookies would be great for travel. They don't require refrigeration or any special handling, though you wouldn't want to crush them in the bottom of your purse or brief case.
  • A Quaker Breakfast Cookie would make a nice addition to a healthy sandwich at lunchtime. They would be great for school bag lunches.
  • The nutrition is similar to a serving of many cereals, so a Quaker Breakfast Cookie would work as a breakfast substitute if you are in a hurry.
  • Many people don't get enough fiber and Quaker Breakfast Cookies would be a tasty way to get more fiber into your diet.
One Quaker Breakfast Cookie has about 175 calories, three grams of protein, 4.5 grams of fat and 33 grams of carbohydrates. A regular cookie of that same size would have over 200 calories with more fat and a lot less fiber.
