Question: I am looking for ideas to feed a child who is allergic to wheat flour.

Answer: If a person is allergic or sensitive to wheat and does not have celiac disease, spelt can be an excellent alternative. Spelt can be used just like wheat flour. There are also a wide variety of spelt products available such as pasta, bread, pizza crust, and cereals.

Quinoa and kamut are two more grains that can be used in place of wheat flour. Rice flour is another alternative, however with no gluten it doesn't substitute as well for baking, although there are recipes available for rice flour. I think rice flour works best for thickening sauces and gravies. Soy flour, oat flour and potato starch also can be used in place of wheat.
