Question: Is it OK to reduce the carb count by the quantity of dietary fiber?
Answer: Fiber is a very important component of a healthy diet, and many people do not get enough fiber in their diets. People on extremely low carb diets are prone to not getting enough fiber when they eliminate almost all carbs.

Fiber is the part of plants that we don't digest, so the fiber passes through the digestive system, which helps to keep bowel movements regular. Fiber will also help to keep cholesterol levels normal and will slow down the absorption of sugar from a meal.

Since fiber is not digested and used for energy, the grams of fiber found in any food will not count toward your daily carbohydrate count if you are following a low carb diet. If you purchase packaged food, look at the nutrition facts label, which may do that calculation for you.
