I was searching through some nutrition and diet article links this morning and came across High-Fiber Pepsi: The Choice of a New, Weird Generation. Apparently last week a fiber-fortified soft drink was launched in Japan. Think of your favorite cola laced with Metamucil. Ewww...
So why push fiber in a soft drink? Fiber is essential for a healthy digestive tract, is good for your heart, and can help you lose weight by helping you feel full, and the soda is being touted as a weight loss aid and fat-blocker. In general, liquid isn't as satiating as solid foods, so I don't know what to think. Maybe that will negate the fiber-fullness feeling. Also, you're still taking in a bunch of empty sugar calories. But anyway, can sugary soda suddenly become a health-drink? Probably not. But weirder things have happened.
