Are All Processed Foods Bad?We tend to think of processed foods as all being unhealthy, like fish sticks, frozen pizza, greasy chips, hot dogs and boxes of macaroni and cheese mixes. And it's true to a point, but while most processed food isn't as good as fresh whole food, not all of it is bad either, and it makes life in the kitchen easier. Milk in a carton or bottle is a processed food and it's an excellent source of calcium and has added vitamin D. Frozen vegetables are processed food, and they're an easy way to get vitamins, minerals and fiber. And what about the little cups of yogurt? Some of them are full of sugar, fake fruit flavorings and food colorings, but some are quite wholesome, like the plain Greek yogurt (just add a little honey, nuts and fresh berries for a healthy delicious snack). Whole grain bread and cereal you buy in the grocery store are also processed foods.
Basically, 'bad' processed foods are high in fats, refined flour, sugar or sodium, while 'good' processed foods have little, or better yet, no added fats, sugars and sodium.
