Nutrition Help At the Grocery Store

You might find something new and helpful next time you go grocery shopping - nutrition ratings on your foods or maybe even a live dietitian or nutritionist who can offer help and consultations right in the store. It's a new trend: grocers offering nutrition information to customers, right in the store.

A growing number of grocery chains are offering food ratings like those provided by Nuval. Each food is given a nutrition score - the higher the score, the better the nutrition. Another company, FoodEssentials offers help finding hidden ingredients in your processed foods.

Are these programs really accurate? I think they are (Nuval's original health experts is a very impressive list), and I believe these tools can become an important part of grocery shopping. While fresh, whole foods are always best, most consumers want some convenient packaged foods that are still healthful. Tools like the Nuval scores and FoodEssentials can make it easier to find convenient and healthful foods at the grocery store.

Yea I agree with you on that issue. But, I would like to make a comment about trying to buy healthy foods at the grocery store. There is a lot of foods as you know out there that says it’s healthy and good for you, but still not, say for example wheat bread. Most people think that it is good for you but it and most breads of its kind helps your body store fat, I am not saying that there not anything in the wheat bread that is not good for you, but wheat bread or any other bread of helps you store fat. There is however, other breads such as made of certain grains that is good for you.I write more about this on my blog post.
I would like to add another thing about buying certain foods at the grocery store which is common sense is that say they are healthy and good for you and or not, is just nothing but marketing. So I would say to anyone before buying something that says it is healthy at the GROCERY STORE, do your research first, and ask questions… Thanks, and GOD BLESS…

If you have an ipod or ipad, check out nutri-find, has a huge database with complete nutrition information. It includes an advanced search that allows searching by category, names and/or quantity of nutrient values. It also allows sorting by any nutrient… say you want to find the foods highest in vitamin d, or calcium or whatever… just sort the result. This has really helped me out.
