Eggs in a Healthy Diet

Monday October 26, 2009
Eggs were taken off of many people's diet food lists because they contain a lot of cholesterol. That's unfortunate, because eggs also contain lots of important nutrients. Actually, there are plenty of studies showing that eating one egg each day will not raise your cholesterol or lower your HDL, so almost everyone can enjoy eggs as part of a healthy diet.

I read something, somewhere that eggs can actually raise good cholesterol, without raising overall cholesterol. I wish I could remember where I read it. Do you know if that’s true?

(4) Vernon says:

I have no high fiber toast so I had 5 Medium eggs and I know these are naughty, but the health experts say that 100% fruit juice is bad and yet I love it so I drink it watered down so I consider this like all naughty foods, people go from saying how bad they are for you to saying how healthy, like the expensive nuts are, and yet when I can afford the affordable ones, I buy them and enjoy them, but I try to remember they are naughty so I limit myself since naughtiness helps me to eat less of them to some extent. Eggs have a lot of calories in them also and it takes a few of them to help fill me up.

(8) Linda says:

Eating eggs have not caused bad to me at all. Although I know fora fact that eggs contain much cholesterol, but I know as well that I get much nutrients from them. Maybe you just have to moderate your eating. Even in any kind of food, too much is always bad to your health.

(10) Steve says:

This is what makes it so hard for average people (like me) to understand and act on nutritional information reported in the media. Eggs are bad for you! No good for you! No bad! Avoid coffee! No, drink one or two cups a day.

I think for the most part the problem is just lazy, bad reporting. But nutrition is not really a simple science. Perhaps the best approach, after all, is the old saw “All things in moderation.”
