Why Do We Want To Eat So Much?
I've been reading a very interesting book called
The End of Overeating
by Dr. David Kessler, formerly of the United States Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Kessler wanted to figure out why it is so darn difficult to resist the temptation of so many high calorie foods. What he found is the combination of sugar, fat and salt is very addictive. Once we get hooked, we can't get enough.
You can see this food addiction in many restaurants as diners gorge themselves on some combination of deep fried goodies drenched in sauces and follow up their meals with decadent desserts, long after their bellies are full. It appears the restaurant industry has a good handle on what we can't resist. In The End of Overeating, Dr. Kessler explains the brain chemistry behind the food addiction (but don't worry, you dont' need to be chemistry major to understand it), and he gives some terrific advice on how to break the hold of sugar, fats and salt has on your brain.

Interesting points, high insulin producing food is also very addicting. Not to mention people usually end up hungrier hours later because of the blood sugar crash.
