Peanut Butter Appears to Be Source of Salmonella

Monday January 12, 2009
peanut butterHealth investigators in Minnesota have determined that the current outbreak of salmonella appears to be caused by King Nut peanut butter. The company that makes King Nut peanut butter has recalled the product. You won't find King Nut peanut butter in your grocery store, it's only sold for use in institutional kitchens like those found in hospitals, restaurants and schools.

did you know that the FDA allows a certain
amount of rodent hair in peanut butter? When
I got my first job as a Registered Dietitian
in a New York hospital, we received weekly
bulletins about food contamination in various
brands of food products…among them was
peanut butter…and the reports noted x amount
of rodent hair was found and allowed….!!!
Make your own might be a good idea…just
a Cuisinart and a little oil. After reading some of the FDA reports I could no longer buy
some brands of frozen foods because they had
ongoing health violations…pies in particular
as I recall.
