The Need to Gain Weight

Wednesday December 13, 2006
With the rising rates of obesity and being overweight, it is easy to overlook all the people who are too thin and wish to gain weight. In order to gain weight you need to take in more calories than you expend physically. Adding weight training exercises will also help to increase muscle mass, which also add healthy pounds to a thin frame. Read How to Gain Weight to learn more about gaining weight with a healthy diet.

I am glad that someone out there understands the way it is with thin people, not all of us want to be thin and some like myself want to put on weight. I am 23 and I weight just under 8st. I try to put on weight, I even eat a lot but I don’t put the on weight. The issues with thin models go both ways, yes teenagers will think that they need to be that thin but also thin people like myself feel that it is not normal to be thin. More awareness about thin people should be issued, some of those models maybe naturally thin and it is not fair to judge them. I am glad that finally there is somewhere thin people can look to gain weight. I hope this opens the eyes of everyone who is judgemental to the models who maybe naturally thin.

Absolutely! I’m sooo glad I’m not alone. I wish people like us could talk about these issues without having people look at us or treat us like we’re out to rub their noses in their own personal weight issues. I’m 31 years, 5′3″ and weight between 86-89#. I find it utterly disgusting and hate looking into the mirror only to find a wraith-like creature staring back at me. It has a terrible effect on my self-esteem and although most of the US feel that where we are is the way they should be, it’s not. It’s unhealthy and extremely hard to physically accomplish even the simplest task because our muscle tissue just won’t accumulate. I eat constantly and sometimes unhealthily (?) just in the hopes that I can hoard a bit of inner fat so I can change it into muscle. I fear at this rate once I hit menepause I will have nothing to support my bones from breaking. I do not, nor have I ever used drugs…It’s just simply the way I was born and it seems nobody out there is sympathetic to my concerns or willing to help. Not all of us want to be this way.

I’m overweight, my mother is underweight. Thank you for the great article, I’m just following up on some of the links. The suggestion about eating smaller meals more frequently might suit my mother. She gets full quite quickly.

I myself cannot gain weight. I am 31 5′4 and weigh 105. I have had 6 children and still cannot keep weight on. I am on the constant go. People always have comments and when I tell them I cannot help the fact that I am skinny I hear “I wish I had that problem” same if I say I cannot gain weight. When I was pregnant I felt great I didnt have the achiness that I do when I lose my weight. I feel unhealthy and hate buying clothes that fit. I am glad to hear there are more people out there that have the same problem I do.
