As a parent I’m very careful on what I feed my daughter. As children look on to us for the directions in life, if we feed them nothing but fastfood, you will have a child in trouble. I, myself, also follow a nutitional plan that has changed my life. Once I began educating myslf on what does a body good, I began to notice that America in a whole is in trouble. Most people don’t look at what they eat. Living in NYC, I alywas bare witness to this. When you walk the streets you come to realize that people are just not aware, if some are, they just don’t really care. I want to live a long and healthy life, to do that I must take good care of my health, menatlly and physically.
One of the most important factors in encouraging good nutritional habits in children is for parents to “lead by example.” Many parents, me included, have poor eating habits due to our upbringing. Also it is easier and more gratifying to eat “junk foods.” It is hard to break this cycle as most advertising and restaurants are promoting the foods people demand (which are the most profitable) but not usually the healthiest choices or portion sizes. Are there examples of success in this area (e.g., a government or consumer program)?
